Best talents and Dream Essence guide
Best first pick: choose the Basic talent that fixes the resource you are actually losing. Carapace of the Damned helps against early humanoid damage, Potent Tincture stretches healing on harder modes, Profane Reload reduces reload vulnerability, and Alchemical Abundance suits players crafting lots of ammunition. Buy four Basic talents to unlock the Intermediate tier.

Best talent by problem
| Your problem or playstyle | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Humanoid enemies drain health | Carapace of the Damned | Direct defensive value in early encounters. |
| Healing is scarce on a hard mode | Potent Tincture | Makes the healing resources you already find go farther. |
| You craft most of your ammunition | Alchemical Abundance | Supports the ranged-resource loop instead of raw damage. |
| Reloads get interrupted | Profane Reload | Fits a single-gun, frequent-reload style. |
| You rotate several weapons | Gunslinger's Trance | Weapon-swap value only pays off if you actually switch often. |
| You reliably hit weak points | Wandering Bullet | Rewards accurate play; skip it if panic shots are your norm. |
How Talent Tables work
- The first Talent Table appears in the safe-room network during Chapter 2, after the church route. Later safe rooms also let you manage talents.
- Talents fit shaped Mask slots. You begin with limited slots and can work toward a maximum loadout of one round plus three diamond talents.
- You can swap owned talents freely at a Talent Table. Change the loadout for a boss, exploration or a resource-starved section.
- Basic is available first; buying four Basic unlocks Intermediate, and buying four Intermediate unlocks Advanced. Eldritch Rewards are tied to specific in-game goals.

How to get Dream Essence
- Connect evidence groups in the Investigation space. Do not leave a chapter with obvious related notes unlinked.
- Solve optional investigations and puzzles. The hotel ledger/Lorelei evidence group and many side rooms award Essence.
- Open E.R.C. Crates and search optional rooms; our E.R.C. checklist prevents missed containers.
- Use the chapter walkthrough for evidence groupings and the optional investigations checklist before leaving a region.
Three mistakes that waste Essence
- Buying a trigger you rarely perform just because its effect looks strong.
- Forgetting slot shape and buying several talents that cannot be equipped together yet.
- Building only for damage while healing, reload time or ammunition is the real cause of failed encounters.
